Thermocouple Bare Wire
Bare thermocouple wire is the solid, single-strand form of the five standard alloy pairs, supplied from φ0.025 mm up to φ5.0 mm. Each product page below carries the full specification table, alloy designation, EMF tolerance and the certification scope you get with the batch.
Type K — Chromel / Alumel
−200 … +1370 °C
Solid single-strand Chromel.
NType N — Nicrosil / Nisil
−270 … +1300 °C
Solid single-strand Nicrosil.
JType J — Iron / Constantan
−40 … +750 °C
Solid single-strand Iron.
TType T — Copper / Constantan
−200 … +350 °C
Solid single-strand Copper.
EType E — Chromel / Constantan
−200 … +900 °C
Solid single-strand Chromel.
Specifying a bare wire conductor
Choose bare wire when the conductor is fixed in service. A solid single strand gives a stable, repeatable EMF at the junction, holds its calibrated tolerance along a straight run, and is the simplest thing to weld, braze or twist into a measuring point. Because there is no strand lay and no insulation to strip, it is also the form to specify when the junction itself has to be formed on site.
- Confirm the alloy pair and the temperature range for your process — the five standard types covered here are K, N, J, T and E.
- Pick the conductor diameter from φ0.025 mm to φ5.0 mm; ultra-fine gauges are made as solid single strand.
- Set the surface finish and temper — bright, oxidized or electro-polished, in hard-drawn or annealed condition.

Bare wire or stranded wire?
Bare and stranded wire are made from the same five alloy pairs to the same IEC 60584-1 Class 1 and ASTM E230 tolerances. The difference is the conductor construction, and that is what decides which form suits an installation.
| Aspect | Bare Wire | Stranded Wire |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor construction | Solid single strand | 7 / 19 / 37 twisted strands |
| Diameter range | φ0.025 mm – φ5.0 mm | φ0.1 mm – φ5.0 mm |
| Best suited to | Fixed sensing points and ultra-fine gauge junctions | Moving, flexing or vibrating conductors |
