How an alloy semi is produced

  1. Vacuum induction melt — chamber below 10⁻² mbar, argon back-fill, 1500–1650 °C.
  2. Cast to ingot or billet, and assign a unique furnace batch number to the melt.
  3. Hot-roll to standard φ5.5 mm wire rod, ready for downstream precision drawing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the composition tolerance on a vacuum-melted ingot?

±0.1% of specification, verified by optical emission spectroscopy, and supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 MTC and a full chemical composition report.

Which alloys are available as ingot or wire rod?

Seven thermocouple constituent alloys: Chromel, Alumel, Nicrosil, Nisil, Constantan, pure iron and oxygen-free copper.

What is the standard wire rod diameter?

φ5.5 mm hot-rolled rod is standard, ready for downstream precision drawing. Other ingot sizes and rod diameters are available on request.

Can I buy a trial melt?

Yes — trial melts from 5 kg, with production custom melts from 50 kg. Every melt receives a unique furnace batch number and full chemistry records.

Bottom line: Alloy semis are for customers who melt, cast or draw their own wire: seven constituent alloys held to ±0.1% composition, supplied as cast ingot or φ5.5 mm hot-rolled rod, each carrying a furnace batch number and an EN 10204 3.1 MTC.

Need a specific melt?

Custom alloy formulations, ingot sizes and wire rod diameters available on request.
